The revelations began with a bang, announcing Kaitlyn Dever, renowned for her role in Booksmart, as the actress set to embody Abby. Following swiftly, the castings of Jesse and Dina added to the growing excitement.

HBO answered with a resounding announcement, introducing Kaitlyn Dever as the talented actress who will bring Abby to life. Abby, a playable character, is a skilled soldier with a complex role in the upcoming narrative, challenging her black-and-white view of the world as she seeks vengeance for those she loves.

Co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann emphasized their casting process, stating, "Our casting process for season two has been identical to season one: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material." They express their excitement at having acclaimed performer Kaitlyn join the talented ensemble, alongside Pedro, Bella, and the rest of the family.

Young Mazino, star of Beef, is set to join Season 2 as Jesse, a pillar of the community known for selflessly putting others' needs before his own, often at a terrible cost. Jesse, introduced in The Last of Us Part 2, is a leader of patrol groups in Jackson, Wyoming, a community crucial to Joel, Ellie, and Tommy. He is a friend to Ellie and an ex-boyfriend of Dina.

Isabela Merced, recognized for her roles in Dora and the Lost City of Gold and Transformers: The Last Knight, takes on the role of Dina in The Last of Us Season 2. Dina, another member of the Jackson community, serves as Ellie's partner and plays a crucial part in the evolving narrative. Describing Dina, Mazin and Druckmann share, "Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous, and instantly lovable. You can look for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those qualities for an interminable amount of time, or you can find Isabela Merced right away."

Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Joel in the second season, following the gripping events of the previous installment. The last we saw Joel, he made a fateful decision to rescue Ellie and lie to her about the Fireflies' failed cure attempt, leading to a tense and uncertain exchange between them.

Bella Ramsey, who impressed audiences as Ellie in the previous season, will return to once again share the screen with Pedro Pascal's Joel. The last time we saw Ellie, she was deceived by Joel about the events at the hospital, setting the stage for a deeper exploration of their relationship in Season 2.
